Our Public Art Tour Begins...

Updated: Jan 15

Welcome Ivan Salazar from Cali, Colombia!

We are thrilled to welcome Ivan Salazar to kick off our 2018 Fresco Exchange Public Art Tour. As a professional photographer and industrial designer, Ivan is passionate about analog photography and dark room processes. He is the Founder and Director of Fundación Culata Arte e Investigación, launched in 2105. This initiative is dedicated to working with communities using urban artwork as a tool for social transformation.

Ivan has been exploring stencil techniques as a way to incorporate his photographs into public art. His proposed artistic idea is to present aesthetics while playing with geometric layers that form messages or make up words hidden in overlapping spaces. He fuses these elements with photographic portraits of common people with Afro-Colombian roots, or "invisible heroes" as he portraits them. According to him these characters are the ones who truly tell the history of life.

Ivan will be touring the US with us for the next two months on both the east and west coasts. In coming weeks, you'll likely start noticing more photos of his large-scale, multi-media portraits of community members on the sides of buildings, and we're honored to see his work grace spaces and capture experiences throughout this epic Public Art Tour.

BONUS BROWNIE POINTS ---- Ivan also brought us huge portfolios stuffed with incredible artwork from many artists in Colombia - from female rockstars who are dominating projects right now, to graffiti-mentality heavyweights. Let's just say the work is wild on its own, and as a collection, it's explosive. We opened up Ivan's baggage like little kids in a candy store. It was totally worth the extra-weight fee at the airport. #heavy

Sneak peak of the artwork unfolding. Stay tuned to hear more about the collection...
