Art Basel Week • Miami, FL
Updated: Jan 23, 2020
The long awaited art festivities in the Miami area were calling to us for another round of exhibitions, murals and re-encountering traveling artist friends. December arrived with much excitement as we embarked on the Art Basel adventure. Our fifth stop in the tour kicked off with a group exhibit at ART BEAT MIAMI. This year the event was held in Little Haiti, which has an established and growing art community expanding from adjacent neighborhoods like Wynwood and the Design District. The creative vibe of the Miami artistic scene reaches out to Little River, located just north of the art mecca.
This developing neighborhood is home to the Archive 79 gallery, a young innovative art gallery hosting local and international artists, from legends to emerging muralists. The team at Archive 79 welcomed us via friends and offered wall space in his gallery to display part of the Fresco exhibit for his upcoming group show. As usual, during this time of year in Miami, outdoor walls were being painted outside the gallery. Courteously, their team offered a section of the wall for a small mural. Felipe Ortiz painted part of a collaborative mural and we were introduced to a lot of artists in the game. We were happy to extend our network and be a part of this awesome gallery. The show was a success, and artwork from our heavy hitters shined on the wall.
We spent a few more days in Miami to see the art fairs, which had a lot to offer. We were impressed by the amount of artwork we saw throughout the week. It was visual overload for sure, but a lot of good art stood out. Above all, what makes the Miami festivities great is all of the people that gather during this one week. The amount of creative energy makes this a unique experience. It was definitely an inspiring week that gave us plenty of laughs, memories and opportunities.
